The Challenges:
Our client, a prominent commercial office building based in the heart of Glasgow, was facing rising energy bills and increasing pressure to meet environmental targets. With high daytime occupancy and a consistent demand for electricity to power lighting, HVAC systems, and office equipment, the building’s energy consumption peaked during the hours when grid electricity prices were highest. The organisation was committed to reducing its carbon footprint and sought a long-term, sustainable energy solution that could be integrated into its existing infrastructure with minimal disruption to daily operations.

Solution:
Omega Energy Services designed and installed a 150 kW rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system tailored specifically to the building’s energy usage profile. The system was installed across multiple roof sections to maximise exposure to sunlight throughout the day. To enhance the efficiency of energy consumption, we integrated a smart energy management system capable of monitoring usage patterns in real time and dynamically adjusting power distribution. This ensured optimal use of solar energy during peak business hours and enabled surplus power to be fed back into the grid under the local feed-in tariff scheme.

Results:
Results:
The solar installation now supplies approximately 60% of the building’s daytime electricity needs, significantly reducing reliance on grid-supplied power. The client has seen an annual energy cost reduction of around £18,000 and an estimated 35 tonnes of carbon emissions avoided each year. Beyond financial and environmental benefits, the project has enhanced the company’s sustainability credentials, supporting its corporate social responsibility initiatives and helping it meet compliance requirements under energy performance regulations. The success of this project has positioned the client as a green leader in their sector.
